You’ll never see leadership the same way again after reading this book. These fifteen commitments are a distillation of decades of work with CEOs and other leaders. They are radical or provocative for many. They have been game changers for us and for our clients. We trust that they will be for you too.Our experience is that unconscious leadership is not sustainable. It won’t work for you, your team or your organization in the long term. Unconscious leadership can deliver short term results, but the costs of living and leading unconsciously are great.Fear drives most leaders to make choices that are at odds with healthy relationships, vitality and balance. This fear leaves a toxic residue that won’t be as easily tolerated in an increasingly complex business environment.Conscious leadership offers the antidote to fear. These pages contain a comprehensive road map to guide you to shift from fear-based to trust-based leadership. Once you learn and start practicing conscious leadership you’ll get results in the form of more energy, clarity, focus and healthier relationships. You’ll do more and more of what you are passionate about, and less of what you do out of obligation. You’ll have more fun, be happier, experience less drama and be more on purpose. Your team will get results as well. They’ll be more collaborative, creative, energized and engaged. They’ll solve issues faster, and once resolved the issues won’t resurface. Drama and gossip will all but disappear, and the energy and resources that fueled them will be redirected towards innovation and creativity.Any one of these commitments will change your life. All of them together are revolutionary. Leaders who practice the 15 commitments· End blame and criticism· Speak candidly, openly and honestly, in a way that invites others to do the same· Find their unique genius· Let go of taking everything—especially themselves and their problems—so seriously· Create win for all solutions· Experience a new relationship to time and money where there is always enoughWhat do you need to bring to the table?Be curious.Sounds so simple, and yet in our experience it’s a skill few have mastered. Most of us are far more interested in being right and proving it, than we are in learning, growing and shifting out of our old patterns. By default we gravitate towards the familiar. We’re asking you to take a chance and explore the unfamiliar. You’ll get scared and reactive. We all do. So what? Just stay curious and let us introduce you to a whole new world of leadership.

"There are so many things I love about the 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership. Since finding the book in February 2017, I have read it multiple times, and have been working to integrate the commitments into my practice as a coach and into my life on this planet. I notice my work with clients going deeper and having wider impact, and improvements in all of my relationships.

Every idea presented in this book is done in a manner that is easy to understand and easy to apply. Part I offers a simple model – a line that one can find oneself either above or below – that alone offers the potential for deep and lasting insight. The practice of locating oneself either above or below the line enables broader thinking and creates room to explore and potentially shift one’s mindset.
*A well-curated, well-organized gallery of ideas and principles*
The authors unabashedly draw on concepts and practices from the work of others (Hendricks Institute, Sedona Method, Byron Katie, Immunity to Change to name a few) to augment and support their own ideas.
*Not just for leaders, and not just for business*
Leaders absolutely benefit from the 15 Commitments. I have introduced it to clients in a variety of leadership roles, in a variety of organizations (tech, education, media). I also apply it to my own life and have found practices that have substantively improved my relationship with my stepchildren, and my communication with my husband, and other family members.
*Exercises and resources*
At then end of each chapter on the individual commitments there is a section, Practicing the Commitment, that offers ideas and exercises for building the commitment for yourself or in your organization. The authors also offer tools and videos at the Conscious Leadership Group website, Conscious.Is.
***Update November 2018***
My hard copy of The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership is well worn, marked up and tabbed. It has become my gift of choice for leaders of all kinds and I find myself referring to it regularly as a resource guide for exploring the different challenges my client (and I face). In the Audible version, Jim Dethmer's voice provides a warm invitation to dig in and explore."

My hard copy of The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership is well worn, marked up and tabbed. It has become my gift of choice for leaders of all kinds and I find myself referring to it regularly as a resource guide for exploring the different challenges my client (and I face). In the Audible version, Jim Dethmer's voice provides a warm invitation to dig in and explore. - Amazing book. I am eager to start a local book group to discuss it. Truly inspiring and just rich with so much different information that all resonates. And lots of resources to pursue. I did not read this book for its intended purpose (business) but rather as a self-help book.
- The Awakening I have had for myself has been transformational. I lead my business and coach CEOs and their teams with more curiosity, noticing when I am motivated by fear. I learned to look at the world in a whole new way with so endless possibilities. My purpose and passion have become crystal clear --with much joy! Seeing others lives changed by practicing these Commitments as leaders and with their teams is more than I could have ever wanted. Coming to a life of choice, and ownership in all areas is radical and possible-- as I have chosen this myself. I am fulfilling what I most want - and I want others to experience this as well. I highly recommend practicing The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership!
- The 15 Commitments focuses on what the authors call performing above the line versus below the line. For each commitment, they give examples of what performing above vs below the line would entail. The highlights of this book is their focus on introspection and the importance of self-awareness and honest feedback. In my opinion, the best "commitments" are the ones related to honesty, integrity and focus. I don't particularly care for the chapters that focus more on what others think.
Overall I would recommend this as well as many others on leadership. - This book is a life changer. Conscious Leadership is more than just a book, it's a Leadership Philosophy that I personally practice daily.
I am the founder of a marketing agency and we use the book and philosophy to develop our leadership team. Conscious Leadership is our Leadership Philosophy in which we practice Radical Responsibility, Being Curious over Being Right and Candor vs. Holding Back--and the twelve other commitments.
I highly recommend Conscious Leadership as a great read, but better than that, a repeat read. I've read the book probably more than 10 times now and have bought 25+ copies for employees, friends, and family. - Following an argument, my wife asked me "Do you want to be right, or do you want to be connected?" I never really considered that there was any other way to be BUT trying to be right all the time! (I'm a consultant, go figure.)
This simple question sent me on a journey of personal "up-skilling". And, after many dead-ends and much time, I am really happy I found this book and the CLG team.
Disguised as another book on leadership, 15 Commitments contains a profoundly simple process for practical and everyday self-awareness (where am I coming from love/curiosity/learning or fear/being right?), self-understanding (what am I afraid of, doing or thinking that I need to acknowledge) and transformation (am I willing to shift?).
Sounds trite, but if you put in a bit of friendly effort into Jim and Diana's approach to self-inquiry outlined in this book, you may not experience at life the same! As a seeker in life, I am pretty critical and skeptical about "gurus" and one size fit all philosophy and wisdom.
This is low cost/high reward stuff relative to much of what I read and have experienced. No baloney. - I have a massive library of leadership books yet this one stands out. The concepts are powerful and simple to grasp. The practices that are designed to turn the concepts into habits are accessible and profound. I read the book once and am working my way through it again, slowly. I strongly recommend this. It's truly exceptional!
- I like this book a lot and recommend it. It lays out a way of thinking that is useful to all leaders at all levels. I would consider it a must read for younger, less experienced leaders. This is full of keys of how to be a truly great leader of people. Well worth the price and the time to read.
