  • I buy most of my travel guides in format because it lightens my load -- I'm going to take my iPad anyway. Some guides are easier to navigate than others, though. This Rick Steves version is not the best but is far from the worst. Plus, it adds audio content that you can listen to through your phone (make sure you download the app and the book itself before you leave) to add to your experience.

I like that this guide organizes tours of the various neighborhoods and sights so that you can plan in advance what you're going to see in a given day without feeling like you're hopscotching over the city. It also identifies the "don't miss" and the "try to see" sights in the context of other interesting but less iconic sights. Steves offers guidance on protocol, including tipping, what to eat, and where to stay.

I was torn between this guide and the Lonely Planet one. I chose this one only because I listen to Steves on NPR; however, you might want to get both if you don't mind spending the money.

  • This a BEST book about Prague , I went to Prague for few days and with this book I felt like I can be there by myself ... very good point from Rick about places to see and restaurants . If you ever need to go to Prague and you don't know this city ...Yes , buy this book and you will enjoy your adventure *****
  • Just got back from our trip and we used the book, but not as much as we have used Rick Steves' books in the past. The maps were lacking and some of the details weren't as useful (like restaurants). We used a lot of internet information in addition. Nice size to carry. I am not sure I would buy another for a different city.
  • I'm completely ADD and this little pocket book reads like a history book more than a break down of what to see. I can't get by the 5th page without zoning out it's so boring. I was hoping more for lists of the top sites to see by neighborhood with details on those sites and suggested itineraries, how to get around, top foods to eat, etc. Buy something else.
  • I bought this book before my trip to Prague (Praha) and read the whole book. It was worth the money and I would recommend this book for anyone who is going to Prague for the first time like I was doing. Rick covers the must see sites in Prague with helpful tips on when to arrive to avoid lines. While I felt safe in Prague, Rick offers tips for not getting taken advantage of as a tourist. Make notes of the sites you want to see that Rick describes and be sure to check online to make sure they are open while you are in Prague. The map in the back of the book is helpful, but don't rely on it. I used the map for guidance and downloaded an offline map of Prague to use on my mobile phone with there, I did not need mobile service for this to work - things are a lot closer than the map makes them appear. This book definitely helped with my visit to Prague. I would have never know about The Museum of Communism with out it, plus a few other worthwhile site.
  • I used these guides all through Prague, much better than taking those guided walking tours with 50 people. I got to learn just as much (maybe more) at my own pace. It's a small size so i could tuck it into a pocket. My only quibble is that when you open and close it enough pages start falling out, so it could use a better binding glue.
  • What I liked best about this guide compared to others is the size. It is small and light enough to carry while sightseeing unlike some other guides I've bought in the past , like Fodor's which is very comprehensive but impossibly heavy to carry while touring. It has a lot of helpful tips and highlights of the main tourist sites.
  • Great book and good tips from Rick Steves - saved at least 45 minutes of waiting in line at the castle by following his guidance.
